Today we had a job skills training workshop and it was awesome because more than 200 people came out to get pointers on their resume, attire and interviewing skills. What prompted this workshop was that as of Nov. 1 thousands of families were cut off of financial assistance from the government and because of this Mt. Zion decided to become an answer to the problem. It is our hope that these individuals will find gainful employment due to the skills they learned at the workshop. Again, this is a serious time and they only person we can depend on is GOD because he is the WAY the TRUTH and the LIGHT
Let us know what you thought of the workshop and the impact you think it will have on the community?
This Tuesday is Election Day and it is mind boggling the number of people that don't vote especially African Americans. The times we are living in are not the best and God has allowed our forefathers to struggle so that we can have the right to vote. In case you didn't know in 1965 the decision was made to make voting easier for blacks. Before 1965 voting was very difficult for blacks because they made sure they had to take a literacy test and have poll taxes. If you do the math this is only 46 years ago. Think about all of the physical and mental beatings that the people in the Civil Rights Movement went through and how through it all they still had faith. It is hard for us to have faith now when we don't have jobs or the kind of money we want but we have never experienced anything like they did. We should be thankful and having faith in God should be so easy because if he brought them out he’ll bring us out. Make sure you vote because as we can see your vote really does count.
Why do you think African Americans don't vote like that should?
Family make sure you congratulate Pastor Moore on receiving the NAACP Metro Kalamazoo Chapter Humanitarian Award. A lot of you may not know but the NAACP is very prevalent in the community and doing a lot behind the scenes. I think a lot of people think of the NAACP as being useful back in the 60's but they fight a lot on the behalf of Kalamazoo residents. They also recognize the great works that the residents of Kalamazoo do. Make sure you get tickets for Nov. 5 so we can represent for Pastor!
