For years, Mt. Zion and her membership have been involved in education. We value a person's total development which includes their spiritual growth and development. Therefore, we are passionate about helping children and families be the best that they can be. Mt. Zion is a site of the Lift Up Through Literacy program, sponsored by the Kalamazoo Public Schools. Many of our members are active in this program as participants or support staff.
Through this partnership with Kalamazoo Public Schools, Mt. Zion furthers her mission of Empowering People to Transform Themselves and the Community.

"Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these" (Matthew 19:14). With those words--and His subsequent actions--the Lord Jesus elevated early childhood to a position of respect and importance. Those who are concerned about the educational ministry of the church must not develop the attitude of the disciples; namely, that ministry is only for adults. A church that wants to be New Testament in every sense of the word must care about and provide for even the youngest individuals who come through its doors.

If you truly have the heart of our Lord, Jesus Christ, you will care for children. We know that the beginning years of a person's life will help to direction the trajectory of their life. Therefore, if we care about people, we must care about helping children gain a strong foundation at a young age. Our T.O.T. Spot is designed to do just that. We are not a babysitting service, simply poised to watch kids while the parents go and get a life-changing Word from God. We are a teaching ministry, with the goal of assisting parents in training up the child in the way they should go so that when they are old they will not depart from it (Proverbs 22:6).
Many of us have been impacted by breast cancer in one way or another. We know someone personally who has been diagnosed with breast cancer whether a friend, family member, or fellow church member. Breast cancer has impacted us all. Mt. Zion has many who has survived breast cancer and don't mind sharing their stories. Yvonne Hawkins is one of the ones who agreed to share her story.
